Digital Identity and Data Minimisation Online

Many online forms request more profile information than a service needs. Data minimisation means sharing only the fields required for the purpose and retaining control over optional details.

When an alternate profile is appropriate

A pseudonymous profile may be suitable for optional forum or community profiles where the service permits it. It is not appropriate for payment, tax, legal, identity verification, employment screening or account-recovery records that require accurate information.

Keep identity generation local

Review generated information before use and avoid entering sensitive personal details into random generators. DI VPN's Digital Identity guide explains the feature and its limits.
